Inner Gospel
Daily Bread — scripture, a short word, and something to carry into the day.
Count What Is Already In Your Hand
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
Notice the wording. Not for all circumstances — in them. Scripture never asks you to pretend a hard season is a good one. It asks you to find what is true and good inside the hard season and say it out loud.
Gratitude is not a mood. It is an act of attention. The discontented eye and the grateful eye are looking at the same life; they are simply counting different things.
Moses stood at the edge of an impossible sea and God asked him a strange question: What is that in your hand? Not what do you lack. What do you already have. The staff was ordinary until it was lifted.
You have more in your hand this morning than you have counted. Count it before you ask for more.

- Lift What You Have Take the ordinary thing in your hand and put it to work.
Morning Prayer
Father, forgive me for how quickly I count what is missing and how slowly I count what is given. Open my eyes to the grace already in my hands this morning. Make me a grateful person, not just on the good days. In Jesus' name, Amen.
